Interprovincial Standards Program (Red Seal Program)

Each province and territory sets its own standards for certifying heat and frost insulators. This means that certification in one place may not allow you to work in others. The Interprovincial Standards Program, or Red Seal Program, uses national standards and lets you write an Interprovincial Standards Examination to obtain a Red Seal. The Red Seal allows you to practise your trade anywhere in Canada.

As a journeyperson heat and frost insulator, you can apply for a Red Seal. Earning Red Seal certification involves:

    1. Graduating from a recognized provincial or territorial apprenticeship program, or
    2. Earning a journeyperson certificate from your province or territory, and
  1. Passing the Interprovincial Standards Examination for your trade.

Red Seal examinations are administered through provincial and territorial certification and apprenticeship offices.
